Life insurance
A comprehensive guide to life insurance – protect yourself and your family.
Life insurance is one of the most important financial products for protecting your family. In the event of an unexpected event – death, disability or serious illness – it provides financial security for your loved ones.
Types of life insurance
Term life insurance
Pure insurance for the event of death. The most affordable form – ideal for covering a mortgage or providing for your family.

Endowment life insurance
A combination of insurance and savings. At the end of the policy term, you receive a guaranteed sum.
- + Guaranteed return
- + Insurance protection
- - Lower return than investments
Unit-linked life insurance
Insurance linked to fund investments. Returns depend on the chosen investment strategy.
- + Potentially higher return
- + Tax advantages
- - Risk of loss
When to take out life insurance?
Life insurance is particularly suitable in these situations:
- You have a family – your partner and children are financially dependent on your income
- You have a mortgage – insurance covers the outstanding loan balance in the event of death
- You are the breadwinner – the sole or main income earner in the household
- You think ahead – you want to build a financial reserve
The sooner you take out insurance, the lower your premiums will be. Risk increases with age, and so does the cost of insurance.
Tax advantages
In Slovakia, you can deduct life insurance premiums paid from your tax base up to 186.09 € per year. The condition is that the policy is taken out for at least 10 years and the maturity is no earlier than at age 55.
